This package includes fixed-guideway transit between Mineral Avenue and Plum Creek Parkway and improvement along the existing highway lanes to meet the appropriate CDOT standards.
Highway - Reconstruction of US 85 includes reconstructing the roadway bed, re-paving the roadway, increasing the existing shoulder's and lanes' widths, and smoothing out sub-standard curves. The final highway configuration north of Norwood Drive is 4 lanes, 2 lanes with auxiliary lanes between Norwood Drive and North Highlands Ranch Parkway, and 2 lanes south of North Highlands Ranch Parkway.
Fixed-Guideway Transit - The transit system (LRT, Self-Propelled Rail (DMU), or Push/Pull Commuter Rail) is constructed between Mineral Avenue and Plum Creek Parkway. The system connects to the Southwest Corridor LRT system that is currently being constructed. Park-n-Ride stations are assumed to be located at Mineral Avenue, Highlands Ranch, Sedalia, and Plum Creek Parkway.
Alternate Routes - The US 85 Alternate Route that is included in this package is Extend US 85. The improvements include extending and upgrading US 85 (Santa Fe) to a four-lane arterial between the existing Castlegate Drive and Plum Creek Parkway. This package also includes the I-25 Alternate Route: Crowfoot Valley Road.
Supporting Measures - Supporting Measures may include recommendations of the Railroad Relocation Study, Transportation Demand Management (TDM) measures, Transportation System Management (TSM) measures, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) measures. Enhancements/Mitigation measures are included as design elements, with consideration of the ecological issues as described in the Chatfield Basin Conservation Network Concept Plan. An emphasis will also be placed on transit, TDM, and TSM.
Access Control Plan - Develop an access control plan for US 85 from C-470 to I-25. The plan provides recommendations on controlling access onto the highway. This may include consolidating existing access and adding frontage roads, or creating additional accesses.
