South I-25 Build Alternatives Fixed Guideway
1. Light Rail Transit - A medium capacity rail system that is powered by electricity in an exclusive, semi-exclusive, or shared right-of-way.
2. Push/Pull Commuter Rail- A rail system that consists of passenger cars pushed or pulled by a locomotive in primarily at-grade right-of-way.
3. Self-Propelled Rail (DMU) - A rail system that consists of self-propelled diesel (DMU) railcar in a primarily at-grade right-of-way.
4. Inter-City High Speed Rail - A rail system that can be either push/pull or self-propelled that can obtain maximum speeds of 125 miles per hour or above.
5. Monorail - A fully grade-separated transit system supported on or suspended from a single beam.
6. Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) - A small, typically low speed system, designed to provide personalized service, traveling to the desired stop without intermediate stops at other stations.
7. Magnetic Levitation (Mag Lev) - Train cars levitated, guided, and propelled by electromagnetic forces in an exclusive right-of-way either above or below grade.
8. Electric Trolley - A single unit light rail vehicle which the train cars are a historic trolley.
9. Relocate Existing Railroad, Use ROW for Transit - Relocate the existing railroads (Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe) and construct passenger rail on the existing right-of-way.
10. Human Tube (operating as PRT) - A tube-like system that is fully
enclosed and transports people on seats. The system is powered by electromagnetic fields or air vacuum. It is designed to provide
personalized service, traveling to the desired stop without intermediate stops at other stations.
