Push/Pull Commuter Rail
Characteristics:
- Existing systems: Florida, Los Angeles, Baltimore, New York, Chicago
- Max Operational Speed: 110 mph
- Acceleration Rate: 1.0 mph/sec
- Deceleration Rate: 1.5 mph/sec
- Station Dwell Time: 120 sec
- Station Spacing: typically no less than 5 miles
- Passengers: 80-200
- Locomotive powered by diesel-electric (either pushing or pulling cars)
- Maximum Grade: 3-3.5%
- Can share tracks with freight trains and other inter-city passenger service
- May use existing track within existing freight railroad
- Can connect 3 to 10 cars
- Generally most applicable for regional trips (between 20 to 100 miles)
