1. Special Purpose Lanes
- High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane - A lane used only by vehicles with high occupancy (typically defined as two or more people).
- High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lane - A lane used free of charge for vehicles with high occupancy (typically defined as two or more people). The lane used by non-high occupancy vehicles for a fee.
- Reversible Lane - A lane that is designated for one direction during part of the day and the other direction during a different part of the day.
- Toll Lane - A lane that requires a fee from every vehicle using the facility.
- Flex Lane (time of day) - A shoulder is reconstructed to meet lane standards and is used as a lane during rush hours.
2. Access Control Plan - A plan developed to decide the best access control options along the roadway.
