Final Design Phase

The Wolfensberger Interchange Project has been proceeding through the final design phase and the project was ready for a Final Office Review (FOR) on September 28, 2000. Advertisement

Public advertisement for the construction contract was scheduled for July 2001 when construction contractor bids were opened and the job was awarded to Lawrence Construction, the prime contractor on the project.

Construction

Construction of the Wolfensberger Interchange began on October 3, 2001 with the closing of the southern half of the structure. Eastbound traffic has been redirected to the inside westbound lane. This allows traffic to continue to travel in both directions across the bridge. This traffic configuration will remain consistent throughout the course of the project.

Currently, CDOT is working to reconstruct the Wolfensberger Bridges over I-25 and Plum Creek.  Caissons were drilled at Plum Creek and I-25 and abutments were backfilled in January 2002 in advance of bridgework.  Pier cap falsework progress is underway and construction of a new CDOT maintenance facility will continue through February.  With cooperative weather, all work should be completed in July of 2002.
