Project Description
Location
The interchange is located on the north side of Castle Rock at the intersection of Wolfensberger Road and I-25. The interchange provides Wolfensberger Road access, both to and from, northbound and southbound I-25.
Construction Budget
The Wolfensberger Interchange project construction budget was determined during the last part of the final design phase.

Wolfensberger Road
The eastbound portion of Wolfensberger Road will be widened from west of Plum Creek to Wilcox Street east of I-25, and will include two through lanes, two turn lanes, and an 8-foot sidewalk:
- Two eastbound through lanes will tie into the existing Wolfensberger Road west of Plum Creek, and southbound Wilcox Street east of I-25.
- A double left turn will be provided on Wolfensberger Road to the access ramp onto northbound I-25.
- The existing large median will be reconfigured and widening will occur on the south side of Wolfensberger Road to accommodate the additional laneage and sidewalk width.
- The westbound portion of Wolfensberger Road will remain unchanged except for an extension of the left turn lane on the bridge over I-25.
Wilcox Street
The small single lane portion of southbound Wilcox Street will be reconfigured to two lanes to tie into the eastbound through lanes on Wolfensberger Road, and provide a continuation of the through lanes into Castle Rock. A modification to the island between Wilcox Street and the I-25 access ramp will be made to accommodate the additional lane.
Bridge Structures
The project will replace the eastbound structures carrying Wolfensberger Road over I-25 and over Plum Creek. These structures, which were originally constructed in 1963, will be replaced with wider structures designed to current operation and safety standards. The new structures will be able to accommodate the additional laneage and sidewalk width. The westbound structures at both locations were constructed in 1995 to current standards and will remain.
Access Ramps The access ramp to northbound I-25 will be widened to two lanes to accommodate the double left turn from eastbound Wolfensberger Road. The access ramp from southbound I-25 to Wolfensberger Road will be widened to three lanes to provide a double left turn onto eastbound Wolfensberger Road.
Any further modification to the access ramps will occur as needed on a future I-25 widening project, ensuring that the Wolfensberger Road Interchange redesign does not preclude any recommendations made in the South I-25 Corridor and US 85 Corridor EIS.
