Project Description

Location

The US 85 & I-25 Interchange Relocation project encompasses the area along US 85 from Meadows Parkway to I-25, and on Meadows Parkway from US 85 to I-25. There are also some additional locations where construction will take place along the local street network. There is a small portion of Front Street included, where CDOT will tie into the widened Front Street being constructed by the Town of Castle Rock. Some minor widening will occur north of Meadows Parkway on US 85 to approximately Castlegate Drive North. Lastly, Castleton Court will be realigned to intersect with Santa Fe Drive at the Douglas County Justice Center.

Construction Budget

The US 85 & I-25 Interchange Relocation project construction budget is approximately $10 million.

Detailed Project Description

In order to provide better local mobility across I-25, the existing US 85 overpass will be replaced with a grade-separated crossing of I-25 that will connect the proposed Crowfoot Valley Road with Santa Fe Drive. The existing US 85 / I-25 Interchange ramps will be eliminated and a new roadway will be constructed as Crowfoot Road. This new local arterial will consist of two through lanes in each direction and a median that varies from 0 to 16 feet in width.

The new Crowfoot Road will connect Santa Fe Drive from the Castleton Court intersection to Front Street on the east side of I-25. East of Front Street the roadway will continue as constructed by others.

Note: The local street names are still being finalized by the Town of Castle Rock, but at the time of final design for this project, Santa Fe Drive was to become Crowfoot Road just past Castleton Court and Crowfoot Road was to become Crowfoot Valley Road just east of the proposed I-25 crossing.

Crowfoot Road will cross I-25 via a new bridge structure. The new structure will be a two span concrete I-girder bridge with a center pier in the median of I-25.

The remainder of the project consists of various realignments and improvements to local streets and highways in the vicinity of the interchange:

• US 85 will be resurfaced and an additional lane will be extended from north of Meadows Parkway to Castlegate Drive North. Some minor widening will occur on Santa Fe Drive, and curb and gutter will be added to achieve an urban arterial configuration.
• Improvements planned for Meadows Parkway as part of this project will occur from approximately Factory Shops Boulevard to US 85. The large existing median will be reconfigured for additional laneage, and minor widening will occur on the north side of Meadows Parkway.
• Improvements along Santa Fe Drive between Meadows Parkway and Liggett Road will consist of curb & gutter, minor widening, asphalt overlay, and storm sewer.
• Castleton Court will be realigned to connect with Santa Fe Drive. Castleton Court will be renamed Castleton Drive once it is connected to Santa Fe Drive.
• Eventually, Liggett Road will be realigned to intersect Santa Fe Drive at this same location to create a full intersection. That work is not included as part of this project.
• Lastly, the groundwork for future signalized intersections along US 85 and Santa Fe Drive will be laid as part of this project.
