February 2002

CDOT and the contractor Centric-Jones have published a project update flyer that has been included here:

During December and January, cold weather slowed project construction to install pipe and inlets for storm sewers and construction of the US 85 and I-25 overpass bridge.  Now that the weather is starting to warm up, you will begin to notice more construction activity on both US 85 and Meadows Parkway including more curb, gutter, sidewalks and median cover.  In addition, the bridge girders for the US 85 structure over I-25 are scheduled for installation at the end February.  Although I-25 closures are required when the girders are erected, the work is scheduled at night to lessen the impact to the traveling public.

Nighttime Lane Closure Notice – I-25 – February 25 through March 1, 2002:

To help ensure your safety during bridge girder erection, starting February 25, 2002 we will close either the I-25 northbound or southbound lanes between Meadows Parkway and US 85 starting at 11 p.m. every night for about a week.  All lanes of I-25 will reopen daily by 5 a.m.  The northbound I-25 traffic detour will move traffic to Front Street and then to Founders Parkway for access back to northbound I-25.  The southbound I-25 traffic detour will move traffic to Meadows Parkway and then to southbound US 85 for access back to southbound I-25.  The Colorado State Highway Patrol will assist the regular traffic control crew with these detours.  We apologize for any inconvenience the I-25 closures will cause you.

For your safety, please continue to observe and follow the directions of our construction traffic control workers and detour signs.

September 2001

The CDOT and the contractor Centric-Jones has published a project update flyer which has been included here in the construction bulletin.

The project work continues to focus on Meadows Parkway and US 85 north of Meadows Parkway. The major work accomplished during September was paving. During October, the schedule calls for paving and more paving. By November 1, the Meadows Parkway paving will be finished with the exception of week day lane closures that may be required to complete the curb, gutter and median work. After traffic is in its permanent configuration on Meadows Parkway, the US 85 ramps to I-25 will be closed for construction of a new bridge.

By Thanksgiving, an additional access to the Factory Shops via Atrium should be complete. The work currently being accomplished for this project at Atrium and US 85 includes signals and a turn lane. The developer will perform the Atrium paving work using another contractor.

Lane Closure Change - Meadows Parkway:

Starting late Sunday evening, October 7, traffic on Meadows Parkway will be switched from its present detour configuration in the middle lanes to the outside lanes. This means the eastbound traffic will travel on the southern part of the roadway while the westbound traffic will travel on the northern part of the roadway. There may be minor adjustments made to the traffic flow due to continuing work, however, traffic will remain in the outside lanes until the Meadows Parkway paving is finished at the end of the month.

For your safety, please continue to observe and follow the directions of our construction traffic control workers and detour signs.

Construction History and Photos

August 2001 - Construction on the project began late in June. Phase I and II will involve the reconstruction of Meadows Parkway and the widening of US 85 (Santa Fe Drive). The Meadows Parkway reconstruction is well underway. Travel lanes will be moved to the center portion of Meadows between I-25 and US 85 around the date of August 10th. This will allow construction crews to remove, widen, and replace the existing concrete pavement with a thicker reinforced concrete pavement.

The Phase I construction of Meadows will include the replacement of the existing concrete pavement, intersection work, widening and storm sewer improvements. Phase I is scheduled to be finished in late September. Phase II will return the travel lanes to the newly constructed pavement on the outside while the inside lanes and median are rebuilt. All of the paving is schedule to be completed by October 31. At this point, all lanes will be open to traffic with the exception of daytime lane closures that will allow crews to complete all remaining signal and median work.

During construction, there will be at least one turn lane and one through lane open to traffic most of the time. During large paving operations, it may become necessary to close left turn lanes for a short period of time. Every effort will be made to ensure that traffic can keep moving through the work zone. Additionally, traffic lights will be adjusted to help minimize delays.
