Project Description

Location

The project is located along I-25, between the Castle Pines Parkway Interchange and the Meadows/Founders Parkway Interchange. The climbing lanes will be placed on the outside edge of I-25 in each direction.

Construction Budget
Funded by Referendum A Highway Bonds

The Climbing Lanes, Phase II project construction budget is estimated at $33.6 million. The construction bid awarded was lower than the Engineer's design estimate.

Detailed Improvement Description

Minor Widening and Pavement Rehabilitation

The Climbing Lanes, Phase II project will consist of minor widening to the median and each side of I-25 to add an additional climbing lane in each direction as well as associated pavement rehabilitation. The climbing lanes will be constructed in concrete and tined* to facilitate roadway drainage and to ensure traction in poor weather. The project includes a middle concrete barrier dividing directions of travel. (*see our 'Glossary')

Typical Section of I-25 for Climbing Lanes I

Other issues addressed during the design process included noise mitigation, archaeological/paleontological, erosion, hydraulics, utilities, traffic maintenance, and construction sequencing.

The final approved design does not preclude the improvements for I-25 which are recommended by the South I-25 Corridor and US 85 Corridor EIS.
